I just started a new devotional book today and wanted to share a bit of what I read. I'll admit, when I started this devo book I was really not very excited about it--it didn't sound much more interesting than the cover looked. (lol) Plus, my grammy bought it for me, and I have a really hard time getting into devotional books that others have purchased for me. But, I finally picked it up today. I only read two short pages and I am already in love with this book! The writing style is especially neat, as it is written like a letter from God to us. Jeff was doing his devotions next to me, and after I finished reading those pages, I told him, "You gotta read this devo book!" He looked at it skeptically, but after reading the same pages I did, he handed it back and said, "Wow. That's an awesome devotional book." I hope I can continue reading it faithfully every day. In order to hold myself countable, I have decided to post daily (haha...I've said that before!) some of my favorite parts of what I've read during the day.
The title of the book is "Come away my beloved," and was written by Frances J. Roberts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...For I have betrothed you to Myself, and though you are sometimes indifferent towards Me, My love for you is at all times as a flame of fire. My ardor never cools. My longing for your love and affection is deep and constant.
...Tarry not for an opportunity to have more time to be alone with Me. Take it, though you leave the tasks at hand. Nothing will suffer. Things are of less importance than you think. Our time together is like a garden full of flowers, whereas the time you give to things is as a field full of stubble.
...I bore your sins and I wish to carry your burdens. You may take the gift of a light and merry heart, for My love dispels all fear and is a cure for every ill. Lay your head upon My breast and lose yourself in Me. You will experience resurrection life and peace; the joy of the Lord will become your strength; and wells of salvation will be opened within you.
I actually pretty much just wrote out the entire page that I read. As I hope, I will continue doing. (Which would mean the book ends as well as it began.)
I think my favorite part out of this whole page, was the paragraph about taking the time to spend time with God. It's so true that nothing will suffer if we are neglecting duties to spend time in the word. That was something I needed to read, as most often, my excuse for not spending time in the word is, "I didn't have the time."
I thought it would be fun to do a guestbook for those who come and visit my little corner of the world. It would be fun to hear from you, would you sign my guestbook?
